Industrial research may be defined as all of the actions, critical surveys and planned works carried out with a view to acquiring new skills and scientific knowledge in order to develop a product, process or service at a later date.

Experimental development may be defined as the activity which targets the application of the results of industrial research in the form of prototype products, processes, or services, which may not be used for commercial purposes before the end of the project.

  • Process innovation results from the setting up of a new or significantly improved production or distribution method. Process innovations imply significant changes in techniques, equipment and/or software.
  • Organisation innovation may be defined as the implementation of a new organisational method in the company's practices, workplace organisation or external relations through the use and implementation of information technologies (ICT).

  • The Evaluate programme provides aid for Brussels SMEs wishing to carry out technical feasibility studies prior to the launch of an industrial research or experimental development project.
  • These studies must be entrusted to a consultant or a specialist organisation (university, higher education institution, collective research centre) exercising its activities for at least two years and benefiting from recognised expertise in the field.

  • This aid helps to cover the costs of obtaining and validating patents concerning R&D projects, whether they are financed by the Region or not.
  • The financial intervention covers admissible costs over a maximum period of three years starting from the notice of receipt issued by Innoviris when the grant application is submitted. By admissible costs, we mean costs related to the patent application procedure: different expenses and associated costs (fees, management costs, certification of official documents, translations, etc.).

 

BOOST (validation ou expertise) At any time   Grant 75%    
  • The Boost programme is intended for small Brussels companies. It enables them to access quickly and at a low cost, the competences of a research centre in order to have an innovative idea validated or to benefit from an occasional expert assessment to support an innovative project.
  • Innoviris offers the candidate company financial aid (maximum 10.000 euros/year/enterprise) for carrying out this short term technical service in a research centre.
  • All the research centres (accredited or part of a higher education institution) may offer services in the frame of the Boost programme.

 

LAUNCH-Enterprise (Brussels spin-out) <20/01/2017   Grant 45% 35% 25%

The Launch programme provides funding for the projects whose objectives are:

  • to study the conditions of the industrial and commercial implementation of the results obtained with a view to the creation of a new economic activity in the Brussels-Capital Region.
  • to finalise the development of a product, process or innovative service based on the results obtained during earlier research.
  • Funding covers a two year period. This period may be extended by one year.

The financial aid may be up to 75% if a Collectif Center is associated.

The aim of the Connect programme is to allocate funding to Brussels stakeholders preparing a European RDI project. More exactly, it finances Brussels entities preparing a project associating one or several European entities with a view to obtaining funding or recognition from a European or supranational organisation.

This aid covers costs related to the preparation, negotiation and submission of the project, such as:

  • staff costs;
  • mission and travel costs;
  • consultancy costs (service contract such as translation, legal services and other similar costs presented in the frame of the project's preparation).

If a Collectif Center is associated to the project, the financial aid may be up to:

  • 70% for an industrial research
  • 50% for an experimental development.

  • Through the Co-create programme, Innoviris wishes to bring closer the Brussels population, the world of research and innovation and the corporate world.
  • Therefore, this programme targets applied research and innovation projects which will be part of a co-creation dynamic and will be implemented in living labs which they will establish with the end users as partners.

  • ThroughTest-it campaign, Innoviris wants to give innovators the cance to develop and test their products, solutions and concepts and try them out with end-users.
  • The applied research and innovation projects are carried out in living labs, which researchers, users and a platform of users are involved.

The financial aid may be up to 100% if a R&D Center is associated.

  • The objectif of Team Up is to foster collaboration between academia and industry in the Brussels-Capital Region.
  • Thanks toTeam Up, companies will acquire the knowledge they miss, integrate state-of-the-art and academics will find real-world use cases to apply their findings.

The financial aid may be up to 100% if a R&D Center is associated.

 

Stock exchange of preactivity At any time   Grant 50% for R&D-, Collective -Centers and Non-profit sector

The objective of Stock Exchange of preactivity is the financing of expertises within the framework of the starting up of an ecnomic activity (Maximum 15000 €, once a year).

The objective of help to the consultancy service is the financing of a limited expertise asked from a research center (Maximum 15000 €, twice a year).

  • The Bridge programme aims, through "Strategic platforms", to support projects in which particular attention is paid to opportunities for industrial applications for Brussels enterprises. 
  • These are academic research projects in priority fields for the Brussels-Capital Region and for which economic enhancement in the Brussels-Capital Region may be envisaged in the short or medium term.
  • Projects which enable the bringing together of a consortium of one or several research units on one side and representatives from the industrial sector on the other side are strongly encouraged. 

 

DOCTIRIS (doctorat en entreprise) 15/05/2017   Grant 100% (researcher)
  • The Doctiris programme aims to encourage partnerships between the academic sector and the industrial sector in the Brussels-Capital Region.
  • Through a call for projects, the programme aims to finance doctoral thesis projects in applied research carried out in collaboration with an industrial partner (in-enterprise doctorate). This implies that the researcher spends at least 50% of the project's duration with the partner enterprise. The research organisation is the beneficiary of the financial intervention.
  • During the project's implementation, the researcher is supervised by his promoter in the research organisation and by a sponsor in the partner enterprise. 
  • Ultimately, the doctoral theses financed must make a positive contribution to the development of the economy and employment in the Brussels-Capital Region.

  • The Anticipate programme supports projects implemented by Belgian or foreign academic researchers who have a forward-looking vision in the fields considered to be essential by the Brussels Region.
  • The projects should contribute to the development and reinforcement of knowledge of Brussels' urban complexity.
  • Anticipate targets researchers in human science as much as researchers in exact science.
  • Collaboration with a (semi)public (Brussels) institution which is greatly concerned by the subject in the field is strongly encouraged.

  • The objective of the Attract programme is to encourage researchers to carry out their research activities in Brussels.
  • Through this programme, a researcher who has the intention of moving to Brussels benefits from a financial intervention for a development or innovation scientific research project. 
  • Expatriate Belgian researchers as much as foreign researchers are targeted by this programme, which aims to combat the brain drain.
  • The researcher will be supported by funding to the host university or higher education institution.
